Biography
- 1965 advanced school leaving certificate at the Odenwaldschule, then studies in sociology at the University of Nanterre (Paris)
- 1968 leader and spokesperson in the May riots in Paris, ban of residence in France (until 1978)
- Participation in the Sponti-mouvement in Frankfurt (practising a social revolution by squatting and agitation), publisher and editor of the magazine "Pflasterstrand" ("paving beach")
- Since 1984 member of the Green party
- 1989 honorary city councillor for the office for multi-cultural affairs in Frankfurt
- Since 1994 Member of the European Parliament (representing successively France and Germany)
- Member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and a member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, President of the delegation to the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee (1999-2002)
- Since 2002 Co-president of the Greens/Free European Alliance group
