Reform of Stability & Growth Pact should create budgetary rules for the future, not the past

The European Commission has presented its plans for the reform of the EU’s budgetary rules, known as the Stability and Growth Pact. The Greens/EFA welcome efforts to reform the outdated and ineffective current regime, but criticise that some elements risk repeating the mistakes of the past.

MEPS demand ban on extreme greenhouse gases

The European Parliament has voted to end Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases, or F-gases, extreme greenhouse gases that are often many thousands of times stronger than CO2. These gases are found in refrigerators, air conditioners, heat pumps or the high-voltage grid, among other things.

European Parliament poised to recognize ecocide

On the initiative of the Greens/EFA Group, the European Parliament recognises ‘ecocide’ as "any conduct causing severe and widespread, or severe and long-term, or severe and irreversible damage" to the environment, specifically addressing environmental damage resulting from armed conflicts, such as the destruction of forests.

Right to repair/consumer package

The European Commission presented its Consumer package which includes two proposals for sustainable consumption, the right to repair and a proposal for a Green Claims Directive. The Greens/EFA welcome the proposal for a right to repair and will push for an extension of the warranty in the upcoming negotiations.
