Google antitrust case

High time for EU Commission to act

Commenting on the antitrust procedure launched by the European Commission today against Google, Green competition spokesperson Michel Reimon said:

“There can be little doubt that Google abuses its dominant market position, so it was high time for the Commission to formally act on this. The drawn out investigation has stalled this action but the Commission should now push ahead and ensure there are proper consequences for Google's business model.

"Google's counterargument that users are free to use other search engines is misleading: it is other online providers, rather than users, which are the first to suffer from Google's model. Google's un-level playing field inhibits these firms from growing and spreading information. Users are indirectly affected if the diversity of and access to information is limited."
