Attacks on the Flotilla fleet are unacceptable

Yesterday night, the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla was attacked with drones off the coast of Greece.

Bas Eickhout, Greens/EFA Co-President, comments:

“ It is deeply regrettable that civil society has to act where the EU and its member states have failed and that volunteers have to risk their lives to make up for the shortcomings of politicians. Last night’s attacks on the Flotilla are totally unacceptable. This intimidation will not hold back the volunteers’ and the worlds’ determination to help the people in Gaza. They will not be deterred from their mission to break the siege in Gaza and bring in life-saving aid. We stand in full support of all the volunteers aboard the ships and of our MEP Benedetta Scuderi, who is on one of the damaged ships.”

Terry Reintke, Greens/EFA Co-President, comments:

“We cannot tolerate these intimidations and have requested a plenary debate for next week. Menacing volunteers on a humanitarian mission is not acceptable. We will continue to stand in solidarity with our MEP Benedetta Scuderi to help the people of Gaza.”
