Eurogroup outcome - EDIS

Quote from Ernest Urtasun

Yesterday, the Eurogroup failed to reach an agreement on a common European Deposit Insurance Fund (EDIS). The Commission proposed the EDIS back in 2015, however, so far there has been no progress on agreeing on the tool at the Member State level. The Greens/EFA Group will push this issue forward in the European Parliament.

Ernest Urtasun MEP, Greens/EFA Vice President and Member of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, comments:

"European citizens need the financial security in knowing that every euro they put in the bank will be equally protected across the EU. Unfortunately, once again the Eurogroup has failed to secure an agreement on a common deposit insurance fund, in another example of why the intergovernmental method of decision making clearly isn't working. The European Deposit Insurance Scheme is essential for citizens and it's essential for financial and macroeconomic stability, which is why we will continue to fight for such a fund from within the European Parliament."
