EU must boost humanitarian aid to Syria

Commenting on the acute humanitarian crisis in Syria and its neighbouring countries, Greens foreign affairs spokesperson Franziska Brantner (MEP, Germany) said:

"The acute humanitarian situation in Syria requires a dramatic response from the international community and the EU. With aid organisations on the ground lacking sufficient funding to implement basic emergency response measures, urgent action is needed. Syria’s neighbouring countries are also overwhelmed with the massive amounts of refugees who have fled the fighting in recent months. The EU must boost its humanitarian assistance in response to the crisis, and the European Council and Parliament should approve additional aid from the EU Emergency Aid Reserve to this end.

“The international community must exert maximum pressure on all parties to the war to implement an immediate ceasefire in Aleppo, with a view to evacuating the civilian population and preventing further tragic loss of life.”
