Although we are still in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis, we see a chance to connect the recovery with the green transition and build a more sustainable economy and society. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px; background:transparent; display:block;\" class=\"spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gouter \" style=\"\"><div class=\"greens-content blk_core_html\">\n<center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"853\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RkNofCSpH1w\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/center>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px; background:transparent; display:block;\" class=\"spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gouter has-medium-font-size\" style=\"\"><div class=\"greens-content blk_core_paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Transforming our industries is key to achieving that. It will create new jobs and support new competitive sectors. This is necessary if we want to achieve our climate goals. Currently, industry represents 20% of our economy and 40% of our greenhouse gas emissions. <br><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gouter has-medium-font-size\" style=\"\"><div class=\"greens-content blk_core_paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Our lives depend a lot on greening our industry. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gouter has-medium-font-size\" style=\"\"><div class=\"greens-content blk_core_paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The European Commission needs to align\nthe EU Industrial Strategy with the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/strategy\/priorities-2019-2024\/european-green-deal_en\"><strong>European Green Deal<\/strong><\/a>. It needs to strive for resource and energy efficiency and\nreduce the energy and resource intensity of\nthe industry. It needs to support innovative green technologies;\nproduction of zero-emissions steel based on fully renewable hydrogen, as well as clean building\nmaterials. It needs to tap the full potential of\nrenewables and electrify industrial processes in order to eliminate fossil\nfuels. <br>\nIt needs to be ambitious and take this chance. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gouter has-medium-font-size\" style=\"\"><div class=\"greens-content blk_core_paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The end of April will also mark the 70-year\nanniversary since the beginning of the European integration project and the\nlaunch of the European Community of Steel and Coal (ECSC). It is time to look to\nthe future and to start rebuilding a European community founded on an energy\nefficient and fully renewables based energy system and with Paris compliant industrial\nproduction.&nbsp; We know that the green\ntransition of our industries is possible, but we need political will, a\nconducive policy framework and massive investments to do that. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gouter has-medium-font-size\" style=\"\"><div class=\"greens-content blk_core_paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The time for the Green industrial revolution is now. This will save money and energy and create jobs by pushing European industries to become the most competitive providers of these technologies.<\/li><li><strong>Tap the full potential of renewables. <\/strong>Recognise renewables as a key strategic value chain, develop a dedicated industrial strategy for renewables and bring forward a \u20182030 pan-European 70 million solar rooftop programme\u2019 as complementary to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/energy\/topics\/energy-efficiency\/energy-efficient-buildings\/renovation-wave_en\">Renovation Wave<\/a>, including mandatory solar installations on public buildings in Member States.<\/li><li><strong>Reform of the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/clima\/policies\/ets_en\"><strong>EU Emissions Trading System<\/strong><\/a><strong> and <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/clima\/policies\/effort_en\"><strong>Effort Sharing Regulation<\/strong><\/a>  to deliver on the EU\u2019s climate targets, with no more free carbon allocations but with an ambitious carbon border adjustment mechanism that would protect both our industries and our planet.<\/li><li><strong>Establish a \u2018resource efficiency first principle\u2019 <\/strong>across all EU legislation, as well as sector-specific EU targets for resource efficiency. Enhance the circular economy, expand the existing Eco-design Directive as well as circular economy requirement to non-energy products by covering sectors that have a significant environmental impact \u2013 such as textiles or vehicle manufacturing \u2013 and make sure that design requirements include a longer lifetime for products.<\/li><li><strong>Create lead markets for in climate neutral technologies, products and services. <\/strong>Reform the EU framework for public procurement to get beyond the \u201clowest price award criteria\u201d by making systematic use of sustainability award criteria, and revise the procurement standards for basic materials, such as in the building and construction sector. Agree on quotas for climate neutral products and materials, including climate neutral steel and cement. <\/li><li><strong>Enhance advisory services: Help businesses through the ecological transition.<\/strong> Evaluate the creation of \u2018Green Hubs\u2019 to provide clear information, advice, assistance and training for environmentally sustainable business transformation, entrepreneurship and business models, especially focusing on SMEs.<\/li><li><strong>Improve governance and transparency. <\/strong>Establish synergies between the various implementing instruments, such as Horizon Europe Partnerships, Industrial Alliances (&amp; IPCEIs), industrial ecosystems and the Industrial Forum, in order to cover the entire value chain. Ensure a balanced representation of relevant experts, scientists, civil society organisations, consumer organisations and social partners in the various fora and instruments. Fully recognise civil society as a stakeholder in green industrial policy and ensure its involvement at various levels.<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px; background:transparent; display:block;\" class=\"spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gouter \" style=\"\"><div class=\"greens-content blk_core_html\">\n<h2 id=\"join-our-campaign\"><\/h2>\n<link href=\"https:\/\/actionnetwork.org\/css\/style-embed-whitelabel-v3.css\" rel=\"stylesheet\" type=\"text\/css\"><script src=\"https:\/\/actionnetwork.org\/widgets\/v3\/form\/get-the-latest-news-on-our-campaign-on-a-green-industrial-policy?format=js&amp;source=gg_blog_2021-03-25\"><\/script><div id=\"can-form-area-get-the-latest-news-on-our-campaign-on-a-green-industrial-policy\" style=\"width: 100%\"><!-- this div is the target for our HTML insertion --><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new industrial revolution is coming.
