    Deaths at sea preventable but predictable until EU changes course

    Members of the European Parliament will debate the recent, tragic loss of life in the Mediterranean Sea. The Greens/EFA Group called for today’s debate to draw attention to the lack of sea rescue missions, and safe passage for refugees, which is contributing to the high loss of life at the EU’s borders.

    European Parliament adopts binding targets to increase carbon sinks

    As lead negotiators on LULUCF, the Greens/EFA managed to get Member States to agree to report on how they take into account the principle to “do no significant harm” when adopting reforms to reverse the current shrinkage of our natural land sinks.

    MEPs give green light for warmer homes and a cooler planet

    The European Parliament has approved its position on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), negotiated by lead rapporteur Ciarán Cuffe MEP. The positive vote in Strasbourg marks a significant step towards lower energy bills for households and businesses and meeting Europe’s climate neutrality goals.

    Commission bans disconnections but puts renewables and nuclear on equal footing

    The European Commission has today presented its proposal for the reform of the electricity market. The proposal aims to avoid skyrocketing prices for electricity in the future. However, the Greens/EFA Group are highly critical that renewables and nuclear energy receive equal treatment.

    Romanian MEP Nicolae Ștefănuță joins Greens/EFA Group from Renew

    On March 8th, the Members of the Greens/EFA Group wholeheartedly welcomed Nicolae Ștefănuță MEP to the Group. “Today, together with the Greens/EFA Group, we have the opportunity to play our part in a greener Europe.     Postponement of the vote on combustion engine phase-out

    On 6th March, the vote on the end of the combustion engine was postponed again by the Presidency of the Council. "The phasing out of the combustion engine must not fail because the policies of governments such as Germany, Poland and Italy are being driven by car industry lobbyists", Bas Eickhout MEP comments.

    Greens/EFA win vote to fight financial speculation

    Members of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee voted on the MiFID and MiFiR files, and supported Greens/EFA calls for an end to financial speculation. Financial speculation is driving up prices of food and energy for consumers, while multinationals are continuing to profit from global crises.
