Today, the leaders of the Greens/EFA Group, EPP, S&D and Renew have come out with a joint statement condemning the Irish Presidency's position on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). The joint statement can be found here.
Terry Reintke MEP, President of the Greens/EFA Group, comments:
“The Irish presidency's proposal for the next MFF is a disgrace. The EU faces huge challenges that require increased funding; massive budget cuts will weaken us at a time when our geopolitical and economic strength matters most. If there is one thing we should have learnt from more than 35,000 deaths this summer, it's that we need enough money to fight the climate crisis. Instead, the proposal cuts funding for civil protection. We are aligned with the leaders of S&D, Renew and the EPP, and we will not endorse such an MFF."
