Protecting marine life - the road to 2030

Live Webinar

Healthy oceans are a key to our life on Earth as we know it. The oceans produce oxygen, they regulate the climate, and they provide us with many social and economic benefits. They are also home to over 200 000 known species.

Unfortunately, marine life is disappearing at an alarming rate. Climate change, pollution and overexploitation of marine resources are serious issues. If we want to reverse the trend of biodiversity loss and to allow marine life to thrive again, we need to act now. The decisions we make now will be extremely important. But what can we do this year? In the next 10 years? What role can the EU biodiversity strategy play?

Join us in a lunchtime conversation on 13.07.2020, 13:00-14:00 with:

  • Virginijus Sinkevičius, European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries
  • Monica Verbeek, Executive Director of Seas at Risk
  • Daniela Diz,  Associate Professor, Oceans Governance and International Law, Heriot-Watt University

The discussion will be moderated by Ska Keller MEP, co-chair of the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament
