Rally against austerity

We need European solidarity

Green MEPs took part in demonstrations in Brussels and Paris today organised by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).

The counter-productive policies being imposed in Europe are promoting only the development of poverty, unemployment and inequality. But lets not target the wrong enemy. Europe itself is not the problem; it is the choices that have been made. If European states continue on this pro-cyclical path, the economic situation will be left in the mire in the coming months. Instead, strengthening the union is essential but it will only succeed if we refocus and commit ourselves to a recovery rather than austerity, to solidarity, and build a more social and democratic Europe. Only then can it face the economic and environmental challenges.

The Greens say NO to social exclusion and austerity and YES to social and sustainable alternatives.
