EP President

Tajani must leave his political past behind him

The Italian EPP MEP Antonio Tajani has today been elected President of the European Parliament. Responding to the decision, the presidents of the Greens/EFA group Ska Keller and Philippe Lamberts said:

"We congratulate Antonio Tajani. He now has to fulfil the commitments he made to our group and in plenary. We don't agree with Tajani on many topics, including women's rights or how to work with lobbyists. As the new President, he has to leave his political past behind him and stand above his personal convictions. He has to defend European values. We expect Antonio Tajani to respect the rights of the smaller groups and represent the Parliament as a whole. He has to show that he is committed to greater transparency in the institutions."
