EU foreign policy high representative Catherine Ashton today confirmed that there will be a fresh round of nuclear talks between the UN and Iran. Commenting on the announcement, Green MEP and head of the EP's Iran delegation Tarja Cronberg said:

"The announcement of a fresh round of nuclear talks with Iran is a welcome development. With the pressure for a military strike from mounting by the day, there is clearly no more time for prevarication. We are nearing last chance saloon. It is crucial that both sides engage fully, with a view to finally reaching a diplomatic solution. Unilateral military action would have far-reaching and devastating consequences. As the recent agreement between the US and North Korea on its nuclear programme has shown, diplomacy can still deliver even in seemingly irresolvable cases."
