Passing of Wangari Maathai
Greens express sadness
Commenting on the passing of Nobel Prize winner and founder of the Green Belt Movement Wangari Maathai, Greens/EFA co-president Rebecca Harms said:
"Africa and the world have today lost a heroic defender of fundamental rights, democracy and the environment. Wangari Maathai was and will continue to be a source of inspiration to many around the world and the Greens/EFA group expresses its deep sadness on her passing. We hope that her spirit, dynamism and activism will live on in the Green Belt Movement."
