FRONTEX – WHICH WAY?

Find the full study here.

The European Commission will soon present its legislative proposal to reform the mandate of Frontex.

The Greens/EFA Group commissioned a study because we think that lessons from the past should be integrated, and that this revision should be used as an opportunity to put respect for fundamental rights, accountability and governance at the forefront of the agency. The study examines recent institutional reports by the European Parliament, EU Ombudsperson, OLAF and Frontex Management Board, assessing their recommendations and translating these into concrete recommendations for the for the Regulation on European Border and Coast Guard.

The launch event of this study takes place on Thursday July 2nd, from 10:30 – 12:00 in the European Parliament (Room AIE2), where it will be presented to Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens and the European Commission.

Join us to discuss the recommendations for the upcoming revision and exchange with our guests and experts!

Speakers:

  • Violeta Moreno-Lax, Professor of International Law (Hertie School & Queen Mary University of London), & Laura Salzano, Lecturer in European Union Law (ESADE); researchers and authors of the study
  • Hans Leijtens, Executive Director of Frontex
  • Olivier Onidi, Deputy Director-General for Schengen and Internal Security & Schengen Coordinator in DG HOME
