EFA pays tribute to the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli

A great pro-European social-democrat and outstanding President of the European Parliament

 

On Tuesday, January the 11th, David Sassoli, the acting President of the European Parliament, passed away. The European Free Alliance in the European Parliament as well as the European Free Alliance party were very saddened by the news. The State funeral takes place in Roma Today. Both the Parliamentary group and the Party want to pay tribute to his accomplishments and dedicated work as politician, MEP and above all as President of the European Parliament, the unique directly elected body, the House of the European citizens, and peoples.

As an attentive listener and close to the people person, President David Sassoli recently said referring himself to the EU: “We must rebuild connections with citizens, renew our social and democratic contract, and listen to the call of citizens who wish to be more involved in the decision-making process and policies that affect their everyday life.”

Jordi Solé, President of the EFA group in the EP, said:

"David Sassoli will be remembered as the President championing social justice, women rights and democracy. For example, During the pandemic, he opened the doors of the European Parliament buildings to the most vulnerable persons. EFA MEPs will remember him as a truly democrat, progressive and pro-European Politician. EFA MEPs' thoughts are with his beloved ones."

Lorena López de Lacalle, President of EFA party praised the personality of David Sassoli, keen promoter of dialogue and deeply committed to reform the EU for a better Europe for all, relying on the youth as Europe’s best asset. On David Sassoli’s own words:” Politics can have no other goal than to care for people, to care for communities and to care for cities”. EFA party will never forget him and stands by his family and friends".
