EU transport funding plans

EU funds massively invested in road and motorways in the new member states

The research uses analysis of draft Operational Programmes for the use of Structural and Cohesion Funds (2007-2013) in the central and eastern European countries.

It shows that the EU target to tackle climate change is undermined by the use of its own funding. The climate and environment-friendly solutions, like public passenger transport and railways, are far from being the priorities in the planned investments. Money would go mainly into new roads and motorways, increasing therefore even more the already surging CO2 emissions from the transport sector in those countries.
