Greens/EFA MEP among those affected – Greens/EFA call for decisive action against ‘nudifier’ platforms

A new study by Agora Digital Transformation provides the first systematic analysis of the extent to which politicians across the EU are affected by AI-generated sexualised violence. The researchers identified 147 politicians on relevant deepfake websites, including 138 women. Greens/EFA MEP Lena Schilling is among those affected.

Terry Reintke, President of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament, comments:

“The findings of the study are shocking and serve as yet another wake-up call that we urgently need effective safeguards against digital violence. We will not tolerate women being intimidated and degraded, whether in the real world or online. We need greater protection against digital violence and call on all MEPs from the democratic political groups to join our demands to the Council and the Commission.

“Member States must consistently implement the EU-wide ban on so-called ‘strip’ apps from the end of this year, and the European Commission must ensure this happens. Digital violence must not be a business model; tech companies must remove nude images and videos from their platforms much more easily and quickly. The responsibility for putting an end to digital violence cannot lie with the victims; we need adequately resourced authorities.”

“I am one of 138 female MEPs affected. Women in politics are 33 times more likely to be affected than men. We were stripped naked without our consent. AI is amplifying violence against women, and that is why we need political action to protect us. This cannot become the new normal.

If women have to fear that AI-generated nude images of them could appear online as soon as they enter politics and become publicly visible, then we have a democratic problem. Being affected myself makes me angry, not just for myself, but for every young woman who might now be wondering whether she wants to go into politics at all.”

Background:
The Greens/EFA Group is calling for the consistent enforcement of the ban on ‘nudifiers’ from 2 December 2026, as well as further measures against the creation and dissemination of non-consensual sexualised AI content. These include clear lines of responsibility and adequately resourced authorities, consistent application of the Digital Services Act, binding safeguards within AI companies, and swift implementation of the EU Directive on combating violence against women.
