CMRs are chemicals that are carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic for reproduction. They have been banned from cosmetics in the EU since 2008. This ban was a victory for public health, ensuring that products like lipstick, perfume, and sunscreen couldn\u2019t contain substances linked to cancer, birth defects, or fertility issues.<\/p>\n<\/div>

But now, the European Commission wants to weaken these rules, allowing CMRs back into cosmetics if companies can claim they\u2019re \u201csafe\u201d when absorbed through the skin.<\/p>\n<\/div>
