Europe Day

The Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament has chosen the occasion of Europe Day, 9 May, to announce the launch of its new .eu address. The domain can only serve to strengthen awareness of European identity.

Global warming confirmed

The U.S. Climate Change Science Program released a new study which reconciles data in measuring climate change. It concludes that human related global warming occurs both on the earth's surface and in the atmosphere; a fact which was not proved yet.

Nuclear plants

The number of operating nuclear reactors in the EU continues to fall after another reactor was closed. On 30 April it was the José Cabrera (Zorita) nuclear plant in Spain which went off line for good.

Global warming and biodiversity

A new study published in the scientific journal Conservation Biology reinforces the evidence of massive species extinction risks due to global warming. A first paper published in 2004 by the journal Nature already identified this threat.

Scientific consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe

While there is a large consensus about the ongoing devastating environmental, social, political and economic consequences of the disaster, the International Atomic Energy Agency opens its own conference in Kiev with the aim of downplaying the consequences of Chernobyl.
