Nuclear accidents

France wants to be prepared for the consequences of a "Tchernobyl" type accident on its territory

Until now the French authorities in charge of nuclear safety insisted on their statistics about the possibility of an accident: it was actually not considered as being likely to happen!

The latest move of those authorities now recognises that a major catastrophe is possible in France and that its consequences have to prepared and planned with the relevant organisations. It puts on the table several unresolved questions and basically shows once again that nuclear is not an option.
This news came just few days after another incident was signaled in the oldest French nuclear power plant in Fessenheim (functioning since 1977), on the French-German border. One of the reactor was shut down after a leakage of water.
