Green MEP appointed Chair of the Transport Committee

Karima Delli takes over from Michael Cramer

On Wednesday, the European Parliament's Transport Committee appointed its Chair for the next two and a half years. The French Green MEP Karima Delli, who has been a member of the committee since 2014, was elected chair and takes over the position from Green MEP Michael Cramer.

Commenting, Karima Delli said:

"Over the next two and a half years, my priority will be to ensure that the work of the Transport and Tourism Committee is as useful and easy to understand as possible. This is crucial for European citizens as transport is at the core of their daily lives. With Europe being attacked on all sides, the Transport Committee must be innovative and bold in facing the many challenges that lie ahead. In the fight against pollution and global warming, in keeping with my work on sustainable urban mobility and Dieselgate, I will pay particular attention to ensuring that transport and tourism play their part in the implementation of the COP21 commitments. From an economic and social point of view, we will have to provide concrete answers to the crucial issue of social dumping, something which strongly affects the sector. Finally, at the time of the digital revolution, I will take care to ensure that technological innovations, such as autonomous cars and drones, respect the principles of safety and benefit businesses as well as consumers and employees."
