Solar power

World's largest solar energy plant in Portugal

The solar panels of this plant are raised 2 metres off the ground and cover an area of 60 hectares, covering the hills of a valley dotted with olive groves. It is located about 100 kms southeast of LIsbon.

The solar power plant will produce 20 GWh per year through its 52,000 photovoltaic modules. The € 56 million plant is expected to bring alternative development to this region and there are already plans to build a similar one in a neighbouring town.

This plant has been build in the contexte of high increases in the greenhouse gas emissions of Portugal, as they surged about 37% since 1990!
