UN panel meeting

Nobel Peace Prize winner IPCC meet in Valencia to adopt the 4th assessment report

The authors will try to present their major findings, included in the 3 reports issued in 2007, in an original and more powerful way. Their aim is to emphasize the need to take action now to reduce greenhouse gases because waiting would be more costly.

A draft of the synthesis report was prepared by a core of 40 experts chosen from groups that prepared the 3 reports issued this year. A possible outcome could be that emissions would need to peak within 8 years and then decline to limit dangerous and long-lasting consequences.

This meeting is being held just a month before the UN climate talks in Bali, Indonesia, where efforts to negotiate a successor agreement to the Kyoto Protocol will formally begin.
