Diana Riba calls for strengthening diplomacy to achieve peace in Ukraine

Diana Riba i Giner intervened in the plenary debate on continued financial and military support for Ukraine by EU Member States. Diana focused her efforts on insisting on the diplomatic route to bring an end to the war.
Since the war started in 2022, Ukraine has faced unprecedented adversity, demonstrating remarkable courage and resilience in defending its sovereignty. As the conflict persists, international support remains crucial, not just in words, but through concrete actions.

“Ukraine has demonstrated unwavering courage and resilience in the face of unprecedented adversity in recent decades,” MEP Riba said in a recent statement, emphasising the world’s commitment to the embattled nation.

The commitment and aid from the EU have taken various forms, including humanitarian aid, economic sanctions against aggressors, and military assistance. “From the very beginning, we have shown them our steadfast support. A support that is not limited to words but is reflected in our actions,” Riba i Giner continued.

Diana Riba highlighted that, while military assistance plays a role, the long-term solution to the conflict will not be found solely on the battlefield. The history of conflicts reminds us that sustainable peace is achieved through dialogue and negotiation. “War may be won on the battlefield, but peace is forged at the negotiating table,” MEP Riba said.

The Catalan MEP believes that the road to a peaceful Europe—one where Ukraine can continue to thrive as an independent state—will require a renewed focus on diplomacy. This means increasing efforts for diplomatic resolutions alongside supporting Ukraine’s military and humanitarian needs. “To move towards a safer Europe and a just solution that ensures Ukraine's survival, it is crucial that we also intensify our diplomatic efforts,” Riba said.

Diana Riba i Giner, the EFA Group President, underscored the importance of support from the global community and stressed that it must be rooted in shared democratic values and, above all, a commitment to peace. While the war continues, it is diplomacy and unity that will ultimately shape the future of Ukraine and the security of Europe.

“Only then will we be worthy of the bravery of the Ukrainian people; only then will we ensure the security of our region,” MEP Riba i Giner concluded.
