Charlie Hebdo attack

Solidarity with the victims and their families

The Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament has strongly condemned today's attack on the offices of the French satirical publication Charlie Hebdo and expressed solidarity with the families, friends and colleagues of the victims. Commenting on the attack, Greens/EFA co-presidents Philippe Lamberts and Rebecca Harms stated:

"While we do not yet know the background to today's attack on the journalists and cartoonists of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, nothing can justify the brutality and inhumanity of the attack and its perpetrators. This attack is an attack on the spirit of community, as well as on press and media freedom, a central pillar of our democratic society. It is more important now than ever that we defend these common European democratic principles and values."
