EU must suspend the Association Agreement with Israel over the war in Gaza.
The European Free Alliance (EFA) Group in the European Parliament is calling for the immediate suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement,in light of Israel’s continued violations of international law and the deepening humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
The EFA MEPs argue that the European Union can no longer justify maintaining full political and economic cooperation with a state accused of committing widespread human rights abuses.
Under Article 2 of the Agreement, such cooperation is conditional upon respect for human rights and democratic principles, a threshold EFA Group considers Israel to have repeatedly breached.
According to the United Nations and humanitarian organisations on the ground, the war in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians, the destruction of critical infrastructure, and the denial of humanitarian aid, all in violation of international humanitarian law.
The EFA Group is urging EU institutions and Member States to:
-
Trigger Article 2 and suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement;
-
Support an international arms embargo on Israel;
-
Call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and full humanitarian access to Gaza.
The EFA group insists that continued inaction risks rendering EU foreign policy morally bankrupt.
The European Free Alliance Group stands for peace, justice, and human rights.
It’s time for the EU to do the same.
Diana Riba i Giner, EFA Group President said:
Europe must stop turning a blind eye while a genocide is being committed in Gaza. This is not a moment for silence or complicity; it is a moment for courage. The EU must adopt immediate and meaningful measures to stop Netanyahu’s war crimes: starting with a full arms embargo and the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
History will judge what Europe did in the face of genocide. We must do everything in our hands to stand on the right side of history: with the victims, with justice, with humanity.
Ana Miranda, EFA MEP said:
“We have no words left, 20 months without action in Gaza. 20 months of complicity.”
“The European Union has remained silent in the face of genocide and is complicit. Because doing nothing in the face of the annihilation of the Palestinian people is complicity.”
“On Monday the 23rd, the Council has a chance to correct the EU’s shameful position by immediately suspending all diplomatic, economic, and military relations.”
“Demand a ceasefire and ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need. Impose sanctions. Ban arms exports. Ban the import of goods and services. Shut down embassies. Cut off scientific, cultural and sports cooperation.”
Stop being complicit in Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Vicent Marzà, EFA MEP said:
“What is happening in Gaza is not just a political crisis — it is a moral failure on a global scale. The EU cannot keep preaching human rights while allowing its agreements and economic ties to fuel the machinery of war. We must suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement immediately, impose a full arms embargo, enact economic sanctions, and break all institutional, cultural and scientific ties. This is not just about foreign policy — it is about moral responsibility. Europe must stop financing the bombs and legitimising the massacres. The time for statements has passed. The time for justice is now.”
