Gaza flotilla: return of Green/EFA MEP Mélissa Camara
On Monday, Mélissa Camara returned to France after five days in detention in Israel.
Mélissa Camara, Green/EFA MEP, comments:
"We set out peacefully to enforce international law and lift Israel's illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip. Israel's response was yet another violation of international law, as it seized us in international waters.
"During those five days in detention, we were subjected to violence and humiliation. However, this is nothing compared to the horror that millions of Palestinians have been experiencing for far too many years.
“There can be no peace without justice, and no justice without truth. We can no longer remain silent. We must not remain silent. We must continue to fight. To protest. To put pressure on our governments.
“It is now imperative that the genocide stops, that the massacres stop. I will therefore continue my fight for justice, against colonisation, for peace.
The EU must ensure that any peace plan fully respects international law and the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. True and lasting peace requires reparations and the guarantee that Palestinians can participate in the peace process and reconstruction."
