The EFA Group announces the departure of MEP Tatjana Ždanoka.

The EFA group in the European Parliament is a defender of the right to self-determination and the rights of minorities, including the Russian speaking minority in Latvia. EFA MEPs are also advocates for peace, dialogue, democracy and human rights. We believe that nothing can justify a military invasion violating human rights and international law. In consequence EFA MEPs strongly condemn Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Despite our repeated calls, Tatjana Ždanoka refused to condemn the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. This fundamental disagreement makes it impossible to keep our longstanding collaboration with her within the Greens/EFA political group.

For this reason, Tatjana Ždanoka has left our group today.

On behalf of the EFA Group, we thank Tatjana for her work and contributions during her 18 years in the Greens/EFA group, and we wish her the best.
