Trump/ICC: Quote from MEP Mounir Satouri
On US President Donald Trump signing an executive order to impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) over investigations of Israel, Greens/EFA MEP Mounir Satouri, Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI), comments:
"As steadfast defenders of the rules-based world order, the European Union has the responsibility and obligation to protect the ICC, which is the corner stone in the fight against impunity and achieving justice for many victims around the globe. These U.S. sanctions are a direct attack on the sovereignty of the ICC’s member states, which have entrusted the Court with its mandate. For the EU, defending the Court is not just a political choice—it is a legal obligation. The Commission has waited long enough: it must activate the Blocking Statute to protect the ICC and all European operators, individuals and partners."
Next Tuesday, 11 February at 15.00 in Strasbourg, MEP Satouri will host a press conference on "Call for a clear EU support for the ICC - crucial for all victims of international crimes and the EU sovereignty".
