Car emissions

UN climate negotiations

The negotiators from 158 countries reached basic agreement on rough targets to reduce the worldwide emissions of greenhouse gases. The UN climate conference concluded that industrialised countries should cut emissions by 25 to 40% of their 1990 levels by 2020.

Nuclear power in Japan

A powerful earthquake shook Japan's northwestern coast this morning. It killed seven people, injured hundreds others and flattened scores of buildings. The quake affected also the world biggest nuclear power plant in Kashiwazaki with very serious consequences:a leak of radioactive water and a fire at the plant's electrical transformer .
