Mobility package vote postponed

Quote from Karima Delli MEP

The mobility package will not be voted today as initially planned (Wednesday, 27 March). The President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, has just announced that the mobility package will be referred back to the Transport Committee and that the vote on the mandate for the European Parliament's negotiations with the Council and the European Commission will be postponed until the plenary session on the 3rd and 4th of April. The plenary debate will continue from around 10.30 a.m. today.

This was preceded by a chaotic conduct of negotiations by the three rapporteurs and inadequate planning of the vote. The translations of the vote on the mobility package planned for this afternoon with 1,200 amendments were only available after a considerable delay. The Greens/EFA group had called for the debate to be postponed.

Karima Delli, Greens/EFA group Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism, comments:

"The President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani has once again shown poor leadership skills and postponed a predictably chaotic vote. It was foreseeable that the vote planned for today would end in chaos. The President of the European Parliament only averted complete confusion at the last minute, instead of giving Members more time from the start. The Greens/EFA group will continue to fight against modern slavery on Europe's roads, against the exploitation of truck drivers and for fairer working conditions."
