Collective Rights Management

How to make it work

Speaker presentations

PRESENTATION

Collective rights management, when properly functioning, is the most effective way for authors to benefit from the licencing of their rights. While the importance of collective right management as a principle is obvious, in recent years, many concerns and criticisms have been raised by both rights holders and users on the functioning of collective management societies.

This conference will take place in the midst of the process of designing a new directive on collective rights management. The Greens have called for a reform in this field for many years, for better governance, management and efficiency, improved transparency on tariffs, revenue distribution and accounting practices. It is now an historic opportunity to solve longstanding abuses and problems, and to establish new mechanisms to facilitate the licencing of musical works in Europe.
