Energy efficiency

Energy efficiency of the European Parlement building

The thermographic analysis shows 3 main problems of energy losses:

  • The most important one being the heating and cooling system which rejects each day huge quantities of used hot air, sometimes at temperatures above 20°C. This heat is simply lost whereas modern systems of recycling this used air are available: instead of rejecting it into the atmosphere it could be used to heat the incoming fresh air. Therefore less energy for heating would be used;
  • The second problem concerns insulation with some parts of the building showing weak points;
  • The third problem is directly linked to the habits of the people with several windows opened for hours (which is sometimes also due to the impossibility of regulating the heating level within the offices).
