COP17/Armenia: Jutta Paulus, MEP, to attend as member of the European Parliament Delegation
UN Biodiversity Conference
Jutta Paulus will participate in the COP17 biodiversity conference - currently underway in Yerevan, Armenia - as a member of the European Parliament delegation. She will be on-site with the delegation from Monday, October 26, to Wednesday, October 28, and meet with the COP17 Presidency, United Nations and World Bank representatives and Youth and Indigenous activists.
Jutta Paulus MEP, Greens/EFA member of the European Parliament delegation to COP17, comments:
"Now is the time to deliver. We need concrete plans and secure funding, not empty promises. We are destroying the foundations of our own prosperity while acting as if we can afford to do so. Without intact ecosystems, there is no drinkable water, no clean air, and no fertile soil - and, consequently, no food security and no functioning economy.
“It is embarrassing to make grand promises at an international biodiversity conference when only one-third of the required national restoration plans have been submitted. The fund for the protection of nature and biodiversity is effectively empty, while at the same time, EU funding for nature conservation is coming under immense pressure. It is time to stop the talk and start taking real action."
