Luxembourg/Engie ruling

Greens/EFA tax and competition spokesperson Molly Scott Cato comments on the European Commission's decision that Luxembourg gave illegal tax benefits to Engie.

" Margrethe Vestager has shown once again how state aid rules can be used to make sure corporations pay their fair share in tax and stop governments doing dodgy tax deals that undermine their neighbours.

"This is the third time that Luxembourg has been severely admonished for its aggressive tax practices. They should stop fighting against the Commission and collect the money in full, which they can invest in their people.

"For the UK, this is another sign of how necessary cooperation on tax is if we are to fight tax dodging and how EU state aid rules work for the many by constraining corporate excesses by the few."
