Defence Readiness: Quote from MEP van Lanschot

Today, the European Commission presented its Roadmap for European Defence Readiness. MEP Reinier van Lanschot (Volt), Greens/EFA shadow rapporteur on the European Parliament’s resolution on the White Paper on the future of European defence, comments:

"I'm glad that Commissioner Kubilius seems to take inspiration from the European Parliament’s resolution on the White Paper, as this roadmap contains many points that we have been calling for for a year now. Since the US has proven itself to be an unreliable partner at best, Europe must get its own defence in order. Brussels now seems to have taken this message on board by concrete calls for European air defence, a drone wall and satellites. Now that there is a plan for the equipment and the money, the most important challenge is to make a plan for joint implementation. It is important to transcend national interests and work together at European level. That is how we can make Europe truly safe.”
