Parliament puts far-right party on notice

ESN

Today, MEPs have just voted to refer the ESN party to the Authority for European Political Parties and European Political Foundations for breaches of EU values, which could result in the far-right party and its foundation losing around three million euros in EU funding. Representatives of the ESN party are accused of making racist, homophobic, and antisemitic statements, which violate fundamental European values.

Daniel Freund MEP, Greens/EFA AFCO Member who initiated the motion, comments:

“Today we have put the ESN on notice. This vote was about accountability, and we welcome that the majority of MEPs have decided to stand up for tax payers’ money and European values.

“Those who incite hatred and violate European core values should not be rewarded with millions in public funds. Representatives of the ESN have publicly made racist, antisemitic, and homophobic statements. This is unacceptable and might be a breach of the rules on which this Union is built.

“That is why we are calling on the responsible authority to review this far-right European party.“
