How to get REDD right?

Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) - livelihoods, ecosystem services and biodiversity

Deforestation has a serious impact on the climate, biodiversity and the livelihoods of local people. It seems therefore useful to install mechanisms that prevent deforestation. How to design these mechanisms and whether to integrate them in the international climate agreement is discussed in different fora. Shortly before climate negotiations in Copenhagen start, a inter-party conference in the European Parliament will address these issues:

Hosted by:

Kriton Arsenis (S&D),
Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy (ALDE),
Catherine Grèze (Greens/EFA),
Fiona Hall (ALDE),
Ska Keller (Greens/EFA),
Jo Leinen (S&D) and
Sirpa Pietikäinen (EPP)

With the support of the GTZ Representation Brussels

Panel I: 15:00 to 16:20h
REDD to combat Climate Change

Panel II: 16:30 to 18h
