"Veggie burger“ ban: Quote from MEP Strolenberg

MEP Anna Strolenberg (Volt), Greens/EFA shadow rapporteur on the CMO Regulation, which included the EPP AM on a "veggie burger" ban, comments:

“The meat lobby is clearly worried that innovative food companies will outpace them, and they are trying to block this progress through such votes. Instead of burdening this sustainable new sector with unnecessary rebranding and marketing costs, we should be supporting it. "From now on, let’s focus on what truly matters: tackling the climate crisis, strengthening farmers, and building a future-proof agriculture. It’s time to stop this nonsense and get to work."

MEP Thomas Waitz, Greens/EFA coordinator in the AGRI committee, comments:

"The European People's Party seems to have a fetish for meat. They are deregulating everything with a bulldozer, but here they suddenly want to patronise citizens and treat them as uninformed minors. Veggie burgers, seitan schnitzel, and tofu sausage do not confuse consumers, only right-wing politicians. This tactic is a diversion and a pathetic smokescreen. No farmer will earn more money or secure their future with this ban."
