    Gulf between vision and action is far too wide

    The European Commission has presented its proposals for a European pillar of social rights and work-life balance. This coincides with the publication of a reflection paper in which it sets out its long term vision for a social Europe.     Greens/EFA sounds the alarm against attacks on civil society and NGOs

    It is beyond dispute that there is an increasing trend across the world to undermine democratic principles and shrink the freedoms and liberties that citizens and civil society organisations now enjoy. Hungary, Poland and Romania are recent EU examples of this.

    MEPs call for stricter rules on palm oil

    For the first time, Members of the European Parliament have called for stricter rules on the import of palm oil. For the Greens/EFA group, this represents a step forward on how to protect the world’s rainforests from the devastation caused by reckless palm oil production.

    The European Parliament has voted on both the findings and recommendations of the Dieselgate inquiry committee and the draft legislation on type approval of vehicles. The Greens/EFA group was instrumental in securing an inquiry into Dieselgate.

    Pace of progress will be too slow

    Negotiations between the European Parliament, Commission and Council on the revision of EU energy labelling rules have come to a close. The Greens/EFA group welcomes a decision that will see consumers benefit from simplified energy labelling, but regrets the lengthy transition for so many products.
