    The EU’s latest ‘blacklist’ for tax havens has just been released, but some of the biggest names are not on the list. Greens/EFA MEPs Kira Peter-Hansen and Ernest Urtasun say it's time for the EU to take its own blacklist seriously and stop treating tax avoidance like a game.

    Russia´s recognition of so-called republics of Donetsk and Luhansk

    Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Russia will recognise the separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine as so-called independent people's republics. The Russian President is further turning the escalation spiral, trying to rewrite history into an imperial narrative. This needs to be met with a unified response.

    Debriefing of the February plenary session

    Greens/EFA priorities for the plenary week included EU-Russia relations, in particular Ukraine, empowering European youth, post-pandemic employment and social recovery, the statute for European cross-border associations and non-profit organisations, the ECJ ruling on Poland and Hungary and the annual report on human rights and democracy.

    Report on a statute for European cross-border associations and non-profit organisations

    The report calls for EU-wide measures to safeguard civil society organisations at the Member State and EU level, including better legal recognition for nonprofits, and supporting minimum standards as well as supporting freedom of association and speech, which is increasingly under threat in Europe.

    Strengthening cooperation at European level

    ECJ ruling shows urgent need for Commission to launch rule of law action

    The European Court of Justice has just rejected a complaint brought against the Rule of Law Conditionality regulation by the Polish and Hungarian governments. The rejection by the court reaffirms that the mechanism is in line with EU law and shows the urgent need for the Commission to finally activate the tool.
