Natural catastrophes

The re-insurer company Munich Re reported that, at US$75bn (€51bn), losses due to natural catastrophes last year were up 50 per cent on those the year before but still well short of record losses of US$220bn in 2005. It expects more weather extremes linked to climate change in the coming years

International Migrants' Day

The Greens held a protest in Brussels on 18 December 2007 calling for more humane treatment of irregular migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.
