MEPS demand ban on extreme greenhouse gases

The European Parliament has voted to end Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases, or F-gases, extreme greenhouse gases that are often many thousands of times stronger than CO2. These gases are found in refrigerators, air conditioners, heat pumps or the high-voltage grid, among other things.

European Parliament poised to recognize ecocide

On the initiative of the Greens/EFA Group, the European Parliament recognises ‘ecocide’ as "any conduct causing severe and widespread, or severe and long-term, or severe and irreversible damage" to the environment, specifically addressing environmental damage resulting from armed conflicts, such as the destruction of forests.

Final Council agreement on the combustion engine phase out

"The end of the internal combustion engine is confirmed. Finally, the reckless blockade ends, along with the future of the combustion engine. Postponement of the vote on combustion engine phase-out

On 6th March, the vote on the end of the combustion engine was postponed again by the Presidency of the Council. "The phasing out of the combustion engine must not fail because the policies of governments such as Germany, Poland and Italy are being driven by car industry lobbyists", Bas Eickhout MEP comments.

EU deal reached on phasing out internal combustion engine for cars by 2035

MEPs vote to end combustion engine by 2035

The automotive sector can, and should be one of the fastest sectors to decarbonise. The solutions are there and manufacturers are already racing to invest. The industry needs certainty. The European Parliament has shown clear support for the car industry to go fully electric by 2035.
