Intensive production? This cow needs grass

Too much milk and meat protein is grown on concrete. It is natural to see cows grazing in fields. But in intensive beef and milk production, animals are cooped up in concrete stables the whole year round and fed on maize silage and compound power feed.

Don't be bullied on genetically modified food

GM food is not only bananas – it could become big business if people who invest in GMOs and biotechnology get their way. From the test-tube to the dinner plate GM food would be controlled by a handful of super-powerful organisations. Almost all GM crops currently released belong to four companies:...

Do you know where your dinner was last night?

Our food is being transported over very long distances, only because some ingredients are a bit cheaper here or a certain processing industry works a bit cheaper there. Live animals are tortured on long distant transports because the meat industry wants to reduce costs. Concentration of the food ind...

What would you grind for your cup of coffee?

Free trade in food comes at a big price for the developing world. At the World Trade Organisation (WTO) the world's most powerful trade forces have demanded access to the markets of the less powerful. They want to be able to buy cheaper raw materials like coffee, sugar and cocoa beans while at ...

Cheaper than dogfood

Cheap food is a myth. In Europe and the US state subsidies have encouraged farmers and the food industry to produce more than their markets can absorb. Too much meat, cereals and sugar have reduced prices and income for farmers worldwide, and at the same time subsidised transnational trade companies...

Some sweets are good for kids

The food we eat every day contains increasing levels of sugar, fat and artificial additives. For children especially this is unhealthy and likely to shorten their life expectancies. While public concern over obesity rises, political pressure on the food industry remains insufficient to remedy Europe...

No to the European Single Tomato

Europe is losing its rich and diverse food culture. 'Protect biodiversity – eat it!' is one of our slogans and we endeavour to promote and support activities and cooperation between farmers, breeders and consumers throughout Europe.

Climate Change / Transport / Energy

We want to avoid the dangerous effects of climate change and end Europe's dependence on fossil fuels and nuclear power. For this we need an energy revolution. Our future society has to be based on the efficient and careful use of energy and renewables.
