A right to green energy for all

We want green and affordable energy for all

Energy, its provenance and its price, impact both people and the planet. We all want and deserve to live a dignified life on a healthy planet: affordable and renewable energy is the way to this.

But that’s not currently the case

We are in times of social and climate crisis because of our dependency on fossil fuels and authoritarian regimes, raising prices and exploiting the earth.

Stay informed: get the latest news on our climate campaign!

A right to energy is the solution

Everyone should have access to affordable and renewable energy, as a basic right. We want the European Union to guarantee that all people living in the EU can benefit from such a right, a fair decision for the people and the environment.

Promises must be met with climate action this decade

Talks at the COP26 UN Climate Conference have resulted in a series of ill-defined promises and announcements, insufficient to keep global temperature rises below 1.5°C. We are still far from reducing our global emissions by 45% by 2030. The Greens/EFA Group also criticises the last-minute change submitted by China and India to further wea…

Commission list of Project of Common Interest will further lock EU into fossil energy

The European Commission has published the 5th list of Project of Common Interest (PCI)  on cross border energy infrastructures. While COP26 is in full swing, the European Commission is proposing to develop and eventually fund fossil gas projects. The Greens/EFA group calls for the rejection of this list and for alternative projects that …

Alice Bah Kuhnke

Gender justice cannot be sidelined when debating the future of our planet. It’s time for governments and institutions to take note, and put gender equality at the heart of any viable strategies on climate and ecology.

Let’s clean up finance in Glasgow

Bas Eickhout
Opinion by Bas Eickhout
Taking the Paris Agreement seriously means immediately stopping public and private finance for fossil fuel activities. Every cent spent on fossil fuel infrastructure hinders the transition towards a climate neutral economy and carries a major risk of becoming a stranded asset in the near future.

Greens/EFA demands for COP26

Just transition in the regions - how renewable energy can create jobs and benefit local communities

Niklas Nienass
Opinion by Niklas Nienass
Renewable energy sources create jobs and economic activity covering a much wider area than conventional energy industries. With clever regional policy, we can maximise the positive impact and create a just transition that serves local communities instead of big business.
