Breakout 01 | Stopping the far right in their tracks: Their playbook, our counterstrategies
We want to better understand how the far right playbook operates, with particular attention to how ecological policies and narratives have come under attack. We will explore how backlash against green transitions is being mobilised and examine strategies to respond. The discussion will then focus on how we can work together to counter their influence and develop common approaches to protect ecological progress.

Breakout 02 | “Affordability”: Case study of a successful narrative for our social policies
The COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine have led to a cost-of-living crisis, with skyrocketing prices for food, housing and energy. At the same time, there are constant attacks on green climate policies, which are claimed to make life even more expensive. The German Green Party has therefore made affordability a key issue in its campaign for the 2025 federal elections and has successfully mobilised voters with this issue.

Breakout 03 | Bursting our bubble: Strategies to engage with different parts of society
To build political support, shape compelling proposals, and bring our ideas into the broader mainstream, we aim to engage more actively with a wider spectrum of society, including communities and groups that have not traditionally been part of the Green political space. This workshop will explore strategies for reaching beyond our core constituencies, connecting with diverse societal milieus, and communicating our message in ways that resonate across different social, economic, and cultural contexts. The goal is to identify strategies that expand the relevance and reach of Green politics.

Breakout 07 | Crisis communication strategies
We experience an increasing polarisation of the political discourse which is characterised by fake news, personal attacks and deliberate campaigns directed at Greens/EFA politics and MEPs. Greens/EFA politicians are prime targets of hostile campaigning or deliberately unfair reporting. When crises hit, it can be hard to think clearly and implement a strategy on how to deal with the crisis at hand. This workshop will be designed to share strategies on how to best act in moments of crisis, how to use crisis communication techniques successfully and share best practices.

Breakout 09 | Remobilising people on climate issues: Case studies from different political levels
While we are noticing a backlash on the green deal at EU (and national) level and less citizens’ movements than in 2019, EU barometers still show that EU citizens care about climate change and its consequences and want the EU to act on it. They know that it has daily consequences for them, from deadly natural disasters (e.g. floods in Valencia last year) to everyday issues like hotter Summer and higher energy prices. Contrary than in the past where Greens were mobilising on unknown impact of climate change, we have to reinvent ourselves to (re)mobilise a public opinion more aware of climate change but not always sure how to act and trusting politicians to provide change, in a more uncertain world where other considerations come first (e.g. job security, inequalities, security etc.)

Breakout 06 | Using social media to expand our political space: A successful case study from Austria
Social media has become an important source of news - for Gen Z, it is even the most important. To get our messages across to our target groups, mobilise them and expand our political space, social media is indispensable for our political communication. But who are our target groups? What issues are they passionate about? How do we reach them? Peter Kraus will share exciting insights of the recent successful social media campaign run by the Vienna Green Party.

Breakout 04 | Strengthening cooperation between MEPs, APAs and Group staff
Trust, common understanding and clarity with regards to the respective responsibilities among all parts of our Group is a key condition for strong cooperation, a positive work environment and ultimately successful political work in the EP. This breakout intends to open a space to discuss some of the recurring challenges for successful cooperation between MEPs, Group staff and MEP staff, foster the common understanding for respective challenges in everyday work and strengthen trust and common confidence.

Breakout 05 | Confronting our green policies with the challenges of rural life
Key green policies can be challenged very quickly, given the new political context. In 2024, growing anger from farmers led to a further weakening of some green provisions of the CAP. Lobbying from the car industry is trying to challenge the 2035 C02 standards for cars (no new sale of combustion engines) by surfing on a feeling that electric cars are more expensive and not everyone will be able to afford it. Legislation to improve energy performance of buildings is also being challenged (e.g. ban of gas boilers) and only portrayed as constraints on poorest people who cannot afford to renovate their housing. However, agriculture, transport and building represent key sectors where efforts to reduce green house gas emissions are not enough. People living in rural areas often lack access to public service (like public transport) and see green policies as ‘punitive’, while we could perhaps have similar objectives in terms of nature protection. We would like to hear from Greens elected / working in rural areas how they respond to citizens’ concerns and what arguments / policies work best to address the needs of these regions.

Breakout 08 | European Greens - exchange on state of play, political priorities and activities
In this exchange on the state of play, political priorities, and activities, the European Green Party will present its work and the Committee members present will share their outlook for the year ahead. The session will focus on sharing expectations, exploring avenues for cooperation between the European Greens and the Greens/EFA Group, with space to identify shared challenges, align efforts, and increase collective impact.

Breakout 10 | Social mainstreaming
Based on the endorsed social mainstreaming roadmap at the plenary session in the morning, MEPs, Group Staff and APAs are invited to join a collective reflection on how to concretely integrate social mainstreaming in our work, to discuss what tools are already being used, and which ones could be used, and collect how everyone can contribute individually to implement social mainstreaming. In short, the endorsed roadmap is a first step in a process to make social mainstreaming a success. This session will help in starting to flesh out how to embark on this social mainstreaming process in our Group.

Breakout 11 | Fixing our democracies and winning elections in the age of junk politics: A guide to transformational campaigning
Our political opponents are thriving in today’s environment—not because they play by the rules, but because they break them. Meanwhile, even our best efforts on the left often feel like they fall short. Campaigners find themselves exhausted, demoralized, and unsure why the same tactics—storytelling, digital ads, comms frameworks, attempts at “authenticity,” TikTok strategies—are no longer landing in so far as to win progressive change. This tactical session offers a bold diagnostic, necessary reframe, and an alternative model to drive tactics. Drawing on the insights from his book The Age of Junk Politics and over 600 political projects in 40 countries, strategist and author Ned Howey will take participants through a clear diagnosis of why our current political practices—even on the progressive side—are failing to build lasting power or stop the rise of the far right. Participants will explore how a marketing-based logic (“junk” politics) has crept into political organizing, reducing engagement, fuelling the far right and deepening civic disillusionment.
