    EU intervention urgently needed to save lives at sea

    MEPs debate the need for a European solution on asylum and migration including search and rescue in the Mediterranean sea. Nearly 6,000 people have died in the Med trying to reach Europe since the start of last year and nearly 30,000 have died since 2014. The Greens/EFA Group are calling on Member States to respect international law.

    COP15 must be a turning point for the protection of nature

    Members of the European Parliament debated the upcoming UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) in Montréal, Canada. The Greens/EFA Group call for swift action to protect species and habitats, including the rewetting of wetlands such as peatlands and the protection of rainforests and oceans.

    EU quotas for Women on boards not enough

    Members of the European Parliament debated and adopted the Directive on Gender balance among non-executive directors of companies listed on stock exchanges (Women on Boards). However, the final text of the Directive is lacking in ambition.

    Commission need to ensure all children's rights to their parents

    Members of the European Parliament will debate the Legal protection for rainbow families exercising free movement, in particular the Baby Sara case. This debate is held ahead of the expected legislative initiative from the Commission to ensure that a parent in one EU country is a parent in all EU countries.

    Agreement on budget shows focus in times of crises

    Negotiators from the European Parliament, Council and Commission reached an agreement on the EU's budget for 2023. The Greens/EFA Group have managed to ensure increased support for measures aimed at dealing with the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis and the climate crisis.

    More transparency to protect our rights and our planet

    Members of the European Parliament have adopted the Directive on Corporate Sustainability Reporting (CSRD). The directive will apply to large companies, and will enable the public and authorities to measure the impact of their activities on the environment, social inclusion and human rights and the fight against corruption.

    Commission’s weak proposal risks decade of harm to EU health & environment

    Alexandra Geese elected as Vice-President of the Greens/EFA Group

    The Greens/EFA has elected Alexandra Geese MEP as Vice-President of the Group. Alexandra Geese succeeds Terry Reinkte, who was elected Co-President of the Greens/EFA Group in October together with Philippe Lamberts.

    Ramping up and subsidising production of fertilisers will not solve the crisis

    The Commission has published their Communication on Ensuring availability and affordability of fertilisers. However, it falls short and the Greens/EFA group is especially concerned with messages given to Member States to subsidise the fertiliser industry, and indirectly subsidising the Russian gas that fuels it.
