EU telecoms legislation

The European Parliament has today approved a compromise agreement on telecoms legislation that its negotiators reached with the EU Council. The major sticking point had been on the protection of internet users' rights in the face of severe and fast-track copyright enforcement measures that are envisaged in some EU Member States.

Energy efficient buildings

A political agreement has been reached on rules for "nearly zero energy" buildings after 2018 for new public buildings and after 2020 for other new buildings. But Council rejected calls to fund a new programme that would have boosted renovation of existing buildings, reduced CO2 emissions and created new jobs.
