Air travel security

Security checks for liquids are costly and inconvenient for airport authorities and passengers alike, and their effectiveness is unproven. With an end to these measures due next year, the EU Commission is however proposing we continue the restrictions and use new, expensive machines to enforce them.

Urban Mobility Action Plan

Working time

Today, the European Parliament's employment and social affairs committee narrowly voted in favour of a European Commission proposal to exclude self-employed drivers from working time rules in the road transport sector. The Greens are however calling for a single set of health and safety rules for professional drivers.

New Entrants Reserve'

The EU Commission is proposing to allocate the equivalent of billions of Euros to coal power plants through 'New Entrants Reserve' permits under the post-2012 emissions trading scheme. This would be at the expense of renewable energy technologies, which are also supposed to be eligible.

Move Green

Transport must be a key focus if we are to have any chance of reducing the dangerous dependency on imported oil and tackling climate change, as well as avoiding a future energy supply crisis. Achieving this will require a behavioural change in terms of our mobility. (pdf)
